A Walk in the Park

Reflections from Disneyland's First Host, By Bob D'Arcy

Bob D’Arcy joined Disneyland in early 1955, assisting the construction supervisor by giving tours of the site to VIP’s, often in Walt Disney’s own Jeep. His adventures really took off on Opening Day, when he became the park’s first Guest Relations Host. For the first time, Bob recounts many of his wild adventures, from his encounters with Walt Disney, and his love affair with the Golden Horseshoe’s original Slue Foot Sue, to his private tours with celebrities from Jimmy Stewart to The Lone Ranger.

In A Walk in the Park: Reflections from Disneyland’s First Host, Bob also shares nearly 70 never-before-published photos, many that he himself snapped of the Magic being built.

This is a historic tour you won’t want to miss!

Bob D'Arcy

Bob D’Arcy started at Disneyland six months before the park opened, as an assistant to the head of construction. In that capacity, he began giving tours of the site to executives, sponsors and other VIPs and continued the duties once the park opened, as Disneyland’s first VIP host. He left in late 1956 to pursue a career in music, and ultimately ended up in TV and the movies, as an actor and a stand-in for, among others, Bob Denver in Gilligan’s Island. He retired after playing Hitler in Disney’s The Rocketeer.
